Former President of Laos Khamtai Siphandone celebrates 100th birthday.

Khamtai Siphandone, who served as President of Laos from 24th February 1998 until 8th June 2006 has reached the age of 100 today.

Born on 8th February 1924, he served as Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister from 2nd December 1975 until 15th August 1991, when he assumed the office of Prime Minister. He held this office until 24th February 1998, when he became President. He also served as Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the ruling party of Laos, from 24th November 1992 until 21st March 2006.
His son, Sonexay Siphandone, is the current Prime Minister of Laos.
