Damien Egan wins Kingswood by-election

Labour Party candidate and former mayor of Lewisham Damien Egan has won the by-election for the UK parliamentary constituency of Kingswood with 44.9% of the vote.

Six candidates stood in the by-election; the winner, Damien Egan (Labour), Sam Bromiley (Conservative - 34.5%), Rupert Lowe (Reform UK - 10.8%), Lorraine Francis (Green - 5.8%), Andrew Brown (Liberal Democrats - 3.5%) and Nicholas Wood (UKIP - 0.5%).
Turnout was 37.1% in the by-election, which was held due to the resignation of Chris Skidmore, who was a member of the Conservative Party until his resignation from Parliament on 8th January 2024. The swing from Conservative to Labour in the by-election was 16.4%.
The constituency of Kingswood will be abolished at the next general election, which will be held no later than 28th January 2025, meaning that Egan will serve as the MP for Kingswood for less than a year.
